At UNIGLAS®, sustainability is not just a buzzword, it’s an actively embraced part of the company philosophy. UNIGLAS® is a network of 15 independent glass finishing companies who jointly develop and produce high-quality glass solutions. This structure enables us to pool knowledge, use resource-saving processes and take responsibility for the environment. An important part of this commitment is the responsible handling of glass shards (cullet) and the reduction of energy usage.
Externally certified transparency and quality
The sustainable orientation of the UNIGLAS® shareholders is regularly confirmed by independent testing bodies. Many of our companies hold recognised environmental certificates documenting that ecological responsibility and energy-efficient production processes are firmly anchored in their corporate procedures. These certifications create transparency and trust – for customers, partners and the entire construction industry. They prove that our companies not only act responsibly, but also continuously measure and improve their environmental performance and have it verified externally. In this way, sustainability at UNIGLAS® is not only implemented but also clearly demonstrated.
During everyday glass finishing work – for example cutting or further processing – glass shards are unavoidably formed. At our UNIGLAS® shareholders, this waste glass is not disposed of unused but instead returned to the recycling cycle in a targeted manner. There, the glass industry uses it as a valuable raw material for producing new glass. This offers multiple benefits:
Glass is 100% and infinitely recyclable – without any loss of quality. By returning their glass shards to the sustainable material cycle, our shareholders play an active part in closing this. Every shard means less waste, less raw material consumption and greater environmental protection for future generations.
UNIGLAS® | Low Carbon
One specific example of this approach is UNIGLAS® | Low Carbon. This product uses glass that is produced from a particularly high percentage of recycled shards. This significantly improves the carbon balance sheet – a solution for building owners, architects and planners who are committed to sustainable building while also expecting the highest levels of quality and functionality.
